IMPAC DUBLIN LITERARY AWARD for YOUNG MALAYSIANS 2009

 

A few students from our school took part in this contest. This prize is awarded to the author of a work of fiction written in English or translated into English and is the world’s richest book prize. It was established in 1995 by IMPAC in collaboration with the Municipal Government of Dublin City. The choice of the host city was on account of the city’s rich literary heritage.

This year’s topic “The Best Things in Life” drew almost one thousand entries. Of these, 20 entries were shortlisted after the judging at the residence of Irish Ambassador to Malaysia, Eugene Hutchinson. The grand prize and the recipients of the nine merit awards were announced on 15 May at a dinner in Hotel Istana. The school takes joy in congratulating Miss Evonne Tong Li Ern (Form 5 Marikh) for being one of the Merit Award winners.

For the benefit of those who have not heard of this award, I recommend that you log on to thestar.com.my/dublin and discover for yourselves the great opportunity that you have missed this year.
